Essential Tips for a Meaningful Hajj Experience

From the Pen of Shafiqul Ummah Hadhrat Moulana Muhammad Farooq (Rahimahullah)

1. The journey of Ḥajj is a journey driven by love. Therefore, refrain from disobeying the Being Whose love has led you to undertake this blessed journey. 

2. Before setting off, leave behind your desires for comfort and food, and also your anger. 

3. Ensure correct usage of the tongue, ears, eyes, and heart, whilst constantly monitoring them. Keep speech soft and sweeter than a candy. Keep the tongue moist with Zikrullah. Always remain in the state of Wudhu. In Makkah Mukarramah, recite the third Kalimah in abundance, and in Madanah Munawwarah, recite Salat and Salam in abundance. 

4. Carry out every task with focus and attention, intending only the Pleasure of Allah Ta’ala. 

5. Give particular importance to following the Sunnah throughout the journey. 

6. After tending to the needs of your companions, ensure the remaining time is spent in solitude, engaging in Dua, Zikr, Tilawah, Nafl Salah, Salawat and Salam, Istighfar and Tawaf. 

7. Look after your health.

8. Do not unnecessarily intervene in the matters of others. 

9. Anger harms oneself, whereas gentleness wins over others.

10. Consider serving the Ḥujjaj to be a means of reward and salvation in the Hereafter. Do not regard it as worthless and do not allow arrogance to enter your heart. 

11. In moments of difficulty, turn to Allah Ta’ala with persistence and humility. Recite Surah Alam Nashraḥ and Surah Quraysh.

12. Maintaining awareness that my Allah is watching over me with much love is needed at all times; habituate yourself to this. 

13. During your stay, do not waste your valuable time, unnecessarily roaming the shops, using the phone, messaging, etc. 

14. Refrain from objecting to any action of the residents of the Ḥaramayn, and treat everything there with adab (reverence). 

15. Adopt patience when experiencing heat and other difficult circumstances. Be content with the decree of Allah Ta’ala and do not complain.

16. Value every opportunity to gaze at the Ka‘bah and the green dome with love and reverence. 

17. Travel to Madīnah Munawwarah with the intention of visiting our Beloved Nabi (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). 

18. Carry out every task in a calm manner. Do not be hasty as this could inconvenience others. 

19. In the plains of ‘Arafat, do not entertain any doubt regarding the forgiveness of Allah Ta’ala. Have complete conviction that my Allah Ta’ala has forgiven me.

20. Have the conviction that Allah Ta’ala’s gaze of love is upon me.
